James Brady Big Band

The James Brady Big Band is made up of some of the most exciting young jazz musicians on the London scene. In demand as both a trumpeter and a composer/arranger, James has worked with top pop artists like Laura Mvula and Kate Nash, classical soprano Leslie Garrett and jazz artists Liane Carroll and Zoe Rahman. With degrees from both the University of Cambridge and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he’s equally at home with jazz, pop and classical music and has worked on projects featured at venues as varied as the Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Centre, Union Chapel, Cecil Sharp House and Phonox (Brixton).

Ray Estaire

Surging from London’s bustling underground music scene, singer, songwriter, composer, Ray Estaire has landed on the doorstep of Jazz with her triple octave vocal talent. With a background of Jamaican, Grenadian, and Scottish ancestry, Estaire’s cool approach to swinging standards or timeless ballads is disarmingly honest. Using her voice as an instrument Ray leads her band with effortless conviction and possesses a deep, rich tone reminiscent of the late Sarah Vaughan.

Blessed with a scholarship to study Jazz at the prestigious Guildhall School Of Music & Drama, Ray Estaire is currently mentored by the legendary drummer Trevor Tomkins and Jazz singer Brigitte Beraha. Past projects have allowed Estaire to support the Will Young on his 2016 tour and provide tour support for the talented Gabrielle at the 2016 Rochester Castle concert. Prior to this she sold out the London Jazz Café with song performances taken from her debut EP ‘Talk About It’, which she also promoted at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

Not only is Estaire a rising Jazz singer, but she has also taken the world of theatre by storm selling out the Union Chapel with her cameo in the Kurt Weill musical; Lost In The Stars (Directed by Jean Lacornerie, and conducted by Scott Stroman). Hot on the tail of a fantastic show at the Barbican, Ray also performed alongside Liane Carroll at Milton Court Concert Hall. Estaire sets her sights on performing at the North Sea Jazz Festival and the legendary Blue Note festival. If her success to date is anything to go by, then her followers are in for a satisfying listening experience to come.

David Guttieres

A singer with a rich, buttery tone most often compared to Frank Sinatra, and whose influences comprise many eclectic genres and span generations, David Guttieres has nonetheless kept jazz as a mainstay in his life. When first performing in big bands in his teens, David embarked on a journey of discovery into this style. This led him to Birmingham Conservatoire after fronting the University of Leeds big band for two years, also enabling a new exploration into smaller formats.

Since leaving Birmingham, David has been writing, arranging and recording with a number of incredible musicians for a variety of projects. He ever strives to pay due homage to the great writers and performers of days past, while still suffusing his performances with a unique contemporary edge.

David is thrilled to be joining the James Brady Big Band, singing some of his favourite repertoire at the most wonderful time of the year.
