Following show-stopping appearances at Glastonbury, Hyde Park (with Blur and The Specials) and Notting Hill Carnival (jamming onstage with Damon Albarn and The Clash’s Paul Simonon), we’re delighted to welcome rawkus south coast rhythm merchants The Black Kat Boppers to Maud for the first time.
Influenced by Rhythm & Blues, Jump & Jive, Ska and Doo-Wop, the BKBs sound is rebel-sousing, authentic, unique and sincere. Keeping you bopping either side – killer 45s courtesy of Count Skylarkin and Count Sizzle.

Keb Darge is a leading man, when it comes to discovering music and bringing it to the people. The creator of the term “Deep Funk” (when Snowboy and him started their funknight in London which eventually turned into Legendary Deep Funk at Madame Jo Jo’s), a massive inspiration to famous people like DJ Shadow and a lot of your favourite HipHop-producers as well as not so famous people who are intrigued by the music he discovers, a wild dancer, a skillful martial artist, and a good friend!
Nowadays he is following his passion for 50s Rockabilly and Surf tracks.

Here he brings pone of his fave acts, Jack Rabbit Slim.  4 Greasy cats playin from the loins since 2004 -Graced the stage at many a top festival including 2 stints at The IOW FESTIVAL & GLASTONBURY in 2011 ! Created earthquakes all across the UK , France , Germany , Holland , Belgium , Switzerland , Spain , Italy , CZ , Finland & The USA ! Regular Radio 2 airplay from Bob Harris .

DJ Andy Smith brings his acclaimed London night  to Maud for a night of Northern Soul, ska, soul, 50s Jump Blues and rockabilly – all played out on crisp, unadulterated, classic cut vinyl.

Andy Smith, most known for his previous compilations including The Document mix CD series (and working with Portishead in the 90’s) comes to Walthamstow with the sound of the Jam Up Twist. 

The set will comprise of Wild 1950’s R&B, stonking Northern Soul, Scorching Ska and Rockin’ Rockabilly and all on 7” 45’s. After having held down a residency at Madame Jo – Jo’s in central London every Saturday for the last 7 years,  Andy return with his partner in crime, Dave Crozier.

MR TC is a superb Glasgow based DJ and musician where he runs the extraordinary monthly club Night Night of the Jaguar, host to the likes of Optimo, Sofrito, Mister Saturday Night, Manfredas, Sacha Mambo and Golden Teacher.

Recently championed internationally by the likes of Red Axes and Jennifer Cardini with his own brand of raw and fearless analogue dance music. His first two EP’s ’Soundtrack for Strangers’ and ’Surf and Destroy’ found a home on JD Twitch’s Optimo Music. His ‘sound’ is one that hops between Left-field Disco, Tropical Oddity, Psychedelic Krautrock, House and Techno.

Live his four piece band mixes organic elements with electronic
instrumentation: guitar and live percussion meeting drum machines and synths, soaked in space echo.

We’ve persuaded MR TC to bring along some mates and do a Night of the Jaguar in East London so joining him on the Megabus are the amazing Leatherette who’s knowing, dark sleazy electronica brings to mind DAF. Mischievously we thought we’d pitch them all against local psych noise-niks M3Tel and asked Private Sorrow to tie it all together with some out-there techno vibes.

All in all it’s going to be beyond brilliant. You should come.

At Byrd Out we are incredibly pleased to have tempted dub pioneer Mad Professor out of his Ariwa Studios in South London to E17!

Mad Professor will be bringing his unique sounds to the Maud space at Mirth, Marvel & Maud, the Grade II listed ‘old cinema’ in Walthamstow for what promises to be a sonic journey to remember. He is one of the leading producers in dub reggae’s second generation, has collaborated with a host of artists, including Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, and has remixed the like of The Orb, The Beastie Boys, The KLF, depeche Mode, and (of course) Massive Attack. Mad Professor’s Live Show will begin around 10pm.

Support from Jungle Dub originator Digital Niyabinghi Jungle Dub Sound system. Fabric says: “Back in the early 90s, Paul Ibiza’s Ibiza Records label introduced the underground to a form of music they called jungle techno … Returning with a new sound that he calls jungle dub, under the name Digital Niyabinghi, Paul Ibiza’s managed to once again channel the pioneering spirit of jungle into his new productions, working to maximize the space and bass pressure of his frequencies”
